De Nora, Aclarity sign MOU to deploy PFAS destroying tech

Dec. 16, 2022
The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding combine Aclarity’s PFAS destruction technology with De Nora’s PFAS removal product line.

De Nora, a global technology company, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with water technology company Aclarity Inc. that will target treatment harmful contaminants, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water at an industrial scale.

The MOU combined Aclarity’s PFAS destruction technology with De Nora’s SORB™ FX product line to quickly eliminate PFAS in groundwater.

Aclarity’s website promotes the destruction of PFAS in reverse osmosis and ion exchange processes through an onsite electrochemical oxidation reactor. De Nora’s product line removes PFAS through ion exchange and granular activated carbon.

“De Nora is committed to contributing concretely to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda,” says Daryl Weatherup, De Nora Water Technologies general manager. “While looking for partners, we seek like-minded organizations that are driving change. Aclarity embodies that notion, and their PFAS destruction technology is an exciting development in the fight against PFAS.”

Under the terms of the MOU, De Nora and Aclarity have agreed to pilot novel water treatment applications with concentration and destruction steps for PFAS and other contaminants of emerging concern in groundwater, where 98 percent of the Earth’s available freshwater can be found.

Nearly all industries around the globe, including water, are impacted by PFAS contamination. In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates more than 10,000 known chemical substances containing PFAS, establishing preliminary advisory levels that may eventually transition to federal law.

“PFAS contamination in groundwater is a great concern across the globe,” says Aclarity CEO Julie Bliss Mullen. “Partnering with De Nora is a tremendous milestone, as we are both focused on delivering sustainable water treatment solutions that can solve this worldwide problem.”
